I've been using this app for years

I initially used the free version. The ads were annoying but would not appear while reading a manga only when outside. That I can respect. I eventually gave in and bought the paid version. The amount that I use it makes it more than worthwhile. The ability to download whole series of manga makes plane trips a breeze. The UI is initially difficult to use properly at first but now that I'm used to it I can't have it any other way. I've used the Crunchyroll manga app and this one is just wholly better. I have currently 71 titles I'm going through and this app is able to save the specific page I stopped at for every single one of them. Meanwhile the Crunchyroll app requires me to restart it if I haven't used it for several hours and then loses my place for the chapter I was reading. Thank you for all the years of support.

Solid but needs a little more

The app is very good. It does its job. Many people take a problem with its new search function which makes you use an internal web browser. Some people hate that. I don't mind. I think besides that everything is perfect. Some people have talked about some not available problems but I don't have them. Even if you did you can just try the manga from another site. One thing I need before I give it a five is that it needs the go a bit over what they have accomplished. I think there is a need to make a panel by panel view because looking at a whole page is annoying to read even on the iPhone 6. I doubt the plus has that problem but that's irrelevant. I think they can figure out a way to make this kind of view. The crunchyroll manga app has made it and it's functional although they have a very limited amount of manga.

The best Manga app on iOS

I tried a couple programs before I found Manga Storm and I can honestly say that this is the best app for reading manga on iOS for a number of reasons. The app is very easy to use, has very few adds even on the free version, and allows you to sort the series that you want to read and/or follow with ease. I ended up purchasing the paid version of this app (which was less than $5) and have never gotten more entertainment value out of such a small amount of money!
Another important reason I gave this app five stars is that any bugs or issues that pop up are usually fixed within a day as Manga Storm's developers are super easy to get a hold of. I had a problem reading a certain series recently and someone from the official Manga Storm Facebook page got back to me within half an hour and helped me and other users fix our problem incredibly quickly. In an age where app developers don't really care about customer service or bug-fixing in a timely manner, Manga Storm shines as an incredible example of a company that still very much cares about it's users happiness.
In conclusion, because of all these reasons, Manga Storm is a fantastic app and is not only incredible as a free app, but one that you will probably upgrade in the future once you fall in love with it like I have!
5/5 stars!

The Gamer (Korean: 더 게이머, RR: Deo Geimeo) is a webtoon hosted by Naver Webtoon. The webtoon is loosely influenced by fantasy RPGs, Dungeons & Dragons, and comic fantasy book series Discworld but set in contemporary South Korea, originally not introducing anything out of the ordinary. Once the main protagonist, Han Jihan, notices a dialogue box in front of him like in a video game, he recognizes that he has become a video game character, and supernatural events start happening.

Summary[edit]

Han Ji-Han was a normal high school student who developed a special ability that allowed him to treat the world around him as a game called 'The Gamer'. He noticed that by leveling up, he could increase his stats and improve his body and mind, among other things. The day after noticing that he can also increase his stats through training (he studied to increase his Intelligence), he accidentally slipped into a combat area for those who have a link to the Abyss, the hidden world of their own. He witnessed a battle between Kwon Si-Yeon and Hwan Seong-Gon, getting involved in it as well. He was approached by Kwon Si-Yeon, who questioned him on his identity.

Han Ji-Han began to realize that he needed to train to be sure that he'll be safe in case he gets caught up in a fight again, so he trains his fighting capability with blunt objects (he uses a baseball bat). On his way home, he accidentally slips into another combat area, having to fight his way through zombies which he later finds out were amassed souls that Hwan Seong-Gon was collecting. He then realizes that he needs to talk to his friend, Shin Seon-Il. Ji-Han assumes that Seon-Il was part of this world due to his level being much higher than everyone else around him, and his assumption proves correct when Seon-Il threatens him, due to him not knowing that Ji-Han has become part of this world.

The story goes on, with Han Ji-Han deciding to stay in the world of the abyss, putting him in many dangerous situations as he grows stronger to protect himself and those around him.

Characters[edit]

Han Ji-han[edit]

Han Ji-han (한지한; Hanjihan) acquires the 'Gamer ability'. This ability enables him to evolve in the same way the main character(s) in a video game RPG would, i.e. with levels. However, he discovers a completely new world (The Abyss) that ordinary human beings are oblivious to. The Abyss is very ominous and scary, comparable to mafia subculture or other rather villainous secret organisations.

Shin Seon-Il[edit]

Shin Seon-Il (신선일; Sinseon-il) is Han Ji-Han's childhood friend and attends the same high school as him. He is the first to discover Ji-Han's new 'Gamer ability', and also introduces Ji-Han to the Cheonnbumoon clan. Sun-Il was initially a little stronger than Ji-Han in terms of 'levels'.

Kwon Si-Yeon[edit]

Kwon Si-Yeon (권시연; Gwonsiyeon) is a female high school student who transferred into 2nd year class 8. She is also an ability user and hails from the Yeonhonmoon clan, the clan who normally opposes but is currently allied with Cheonbonmoon.

Hwan Seong-Ah[edit]

Hwan Seong-Ah (환성아; Hwanseong-a) Hwan Seong-Gon's daughter and also a transfer student at Ji-Han's high school a while after Si-Yeon's transfer. She becomes close to Ji-Han, who tries to cure her of a strange illness, with the help of his newly learned healing ability.

Yujin Kim[edit]

Yujin Kim, first introduced as the president of Han Ji-Han's class, was a normal human girl. After being sucked into the Great Labyrinth Era (A Protected Space), she is aided by Han Ji-Han and learns of the Abyss. Through exposure to Han Ji-Han's ability, she gains an affinity for magic and eventually decides to continue to develop her skills as a magic user.

English translations[edit]

As Naver Corporation started making web content globally available in 2014, many webtoons, including The Gamer, got official English-language translations. Hankook Ilbo noted The Gamer as an example of a webtoon that introduces Korean culture to English-speaking audiences.[1] Together with Tower of God and Girls of the Wild's, The Gamer is among the most popular official English-translated webtoons as of 2018 (Next to Tales of Demons And Gods overall).[2]
