Players are tossed into the forest where they must track down eight pages scattered about before the mysterious Slender Man, a tall man with a white face and no facial features, reaches you.

Older versions were better. WAY too many adds!

I see my review from wayyy back is still on the poster for this game to sucker in players. While in some ways this is still one of the closest to the original 8 pages game, in terms of graphics and such, the game desperately needs to return to its roots with earlier versions. The sheer number of ads that bombard the player takes away from the excitement, and its annoying how often they pop up on both the menu and everytime the player dies it asks if youd like to see an ad to continue. The life bar at the top is another thing that needs to go. Part of the fear factor in playing this is in not knowing when or if slenderman would get you. The depletion of the bar is a giveaway that your about to die and coupled with the fact that slenderman makes you look at him, its also cheap. Keep the face cam and everyplay record and share features however. Its cool to be able to let others see your replays. The new levels are good add ons as well. While i can take or leave the slender coin feature, some of the features you can get with them (night vision additional levels and a page finder) are cool. Keep these but do away with continues. In short, Return this game to being more like past versions from 4 or so years ago and perhaps keep the share features. Its annoying as hell to play as is.

Slenderman on the IPAD??

So.. what makes good horror games? The answer is kind of complicated, and since this is really a simple game I will shorten the list. First off: atmosphere! The dark forest and sounds really set off a good place to die. Humans are social beings, and being alone is one of our major weaknesses, and Slender takes advantage of that. While this game is really difficult it is possible. The more pages you collect, the more aggresive Slender gets, following right behind your every step. Tension is also a big factor: you see the page, and get a rush of elation. But you see a gaunt face peeking out of the trees. Just the fact that you have to get the pages, but Slender might already be their makes it kinda creepy.
While the game to play is not very scary (the enclosed ones like warehouse are creepier because sometimes you have to turn around and Slender might be there) sometimes it really gets your heart pounding. For me, the scariest part is whenever you are home in the dark, you remember this game, and don't want to move.
However, it is much like Slender on the PC. The controls can be a little iffy at times, but it adds to the 'oh god' element of horror.

Too many ads

I mean, it's a decent game and all but it's all commercial. Energy runs out (just from walking, not even seeing slenderman so it's inevitable) unless you _buy_ more, you can only get so far until you get caught (even if you weren't even looking at slenderman) and can only continue if you watch an ad, which isn't that bad but the worst is immediately when you open the app, it floods with ads that you accidentally tap as a result of them appearing right before you're about to press the level! And then after you go out of the AppStore that it took you too another add pops up because apparently they can't have a game unless it's flooded with ways to make extra money. Deleted and forgotten. Sorry not sorry.

The Eight Pages is the second part of Slender: The Arrival. Following what could be a scream from Kate, the player must search the nearby Oakside Park for clues about Kate's whereabouts. But something else lurks in the park, watching.

Walkthrough

You will begin this part at a random location slightly outside the park. Nearby will be a small shack, investigate the front and sides of the building for Collectibles #5 - A sign that shows 3 canoes available for rent, #6 - A pamphlet about the park, and #7 - A list of rules of the park. Continue in to the park to find 8 pages left by Kate. These pages will be stuck to 8 of 10 distinct landmarks. While searching for the pages, the entity known as Slenderman will begin to make his appearance. It is possible you will 'sense' him long before you see him. Signs that Slenderman is near include audio distortions, video anomalies, loud unexplainable noises, heavy breathing or whimpering from the character, and slight musical cues. And of course, there is the sighting of Slenderman himself.

Elongated, imposing, menacing, towering, and silent. Slenderman can appear anywhere, able to instantly teleport to any location near the player. Simply gazing into the faceless being will cause the audio and video distortions to become more and more severe, and prolonged exposure will alse become apparent as tentacles begin to emerge from Slenderman, writhing in the direciton of the player. Moments after - all will go black - and the game will end.

It may be tempting to use the sprint button to get from one page to the next in rapid succession - but in fact your stamina has an invisible meter that will falter over time. After awhile of continue sprinting, you will only be able to walk, and these effects may be magnified by Slenderman's presence. Therefore it is best to save your sprint for evading Slenderman, and also getting in and out of areas like the Visitor Center before Slenderman can trap you inside.

The most important thing to note in this area is that while the park layout appears the same, the starting locations and landmarks - and which locations have one of the eight pages are completey random.

Because of the random factor, a traditional walkthrough is useless. The best chance a player can have to navigate this area and make it out with the 8 pages, is remain calm, and visualize a map as best as possible. The left side of the map contains the waters edge, while the right side has the tall grass. The middle always contains the rocky quarry with 3 exits.

Because Slender: The Arrival relies heavily on scare tactics, the area becomes increasingly difficult to navigate with the constant threat of running into Slenderman, and rushing headlong into the woods to escape him. The only remedy is to try to keep a level head, and seldom divert from the trails. Always remember where landmarks are in relation to each other, and remember which landmarks you have visited, and if they had one of the 8 pages. There are 10 landmarks - and most of them can appear in any region of the map. The two largest landmarks - The Visitor Center and the Storage Yard, will often be located on either side of the Quarry. The 10 locations are as follows

• The Canoe and Tree
• The Water Tower
• The Abandoned Car
• The Tent
• The Storage Yard (Covered)
• The Watch Tower
• The Storage Yard (Uncovered)

A good method is to find an area you can indentify with (the water's edge or the tall grass) and follow the trails in a clockwise or counter clockwise manner. Once you have completed a full circle, begin again, taking the inner paths that connect to the outer paths. If Slenderman should appear, try to double back for a bit, and continue on once he has moved out of your way.
