Hi, Newbie here. I install a ETKA 7.4 with 950 outdated database, then use ETKA online update tool 1.5 to complete download all the latest database up to vw1009 au1009 sk541 se535. When I open ETKA program and click Update, it started extract and copy all the database until it prompt out a message: 'Dear sir/madam, This data can only be processed by the latest version of Etka.'

If I click the Update in ETKA program again, it will start all over until the message prompt out. Please guide me here. Thank you very very much!

Apr 30, 2009 - ok so i just got etka 7.2 and was wondering if anyone has it or konws where i can get a quick tutorial of the program. I have kind of figured it out.

Please guide me here. Thank you very very much!

Hi, Had the same problem. Advise: completely uninstall ETKA and remove possible reg keys with CCleaner if you want to be sure, restart and install ETKA again. Then download all updates automatically with the perfect batch program 'ETKA Online-Update 1.05.exe' of flaskgordon82 and then. STOP and read this carefully: You should NOT to install all 55+ updates per brand in one go, but in batches of about 5 per update. Around AU(DI) update 1000 (not sure about the other brand updates, I only need AU) the update of ETKA to 7.4 plus is also recognised and installed in update process.

This is needed before you can proceed with the remaining updates above 1001 and higher. Important: the batch of flaskgordon82 copies all available updates into ETKA's Update folders.

This is fine if you only have a few, but in many cases doesn't work for ETKA if there are many content- and program updates together to manage like in the initial major update. Therefore to keep ETKA from (unsuccessfully) installing ALL these 4x55+(!) updates in one go from the 4 locations ETKA DATA AU-SE-SK-VW Update the first time you start it up or press the Update button, you FIRST need to remove all updates from these folders and store them in a safe place, BEFORE you start up ETKA for the first time! The first five updates of the brand you (primarily) want can be copied back/ left in its Update folder. After the first batch of 5 updates you feed ETKA the next 5 and so on until you've installed all you need to get at least one brand up-to-date to make ETKA work. Sometimes an errorbox pops up during installing of the updates.

Don't worry ETKA will recover where it left if you press the Update button again. Strangely some updates only finish succesfully if you exit ETKA while it is updating itself! This should make it work for you too! Good luck Rob.

If I put the next update for me 'etupau10090.exe' manually into the ETKA update folder ETKA DATA AU Update with this '0' at the end ETKA does not recognize update. When renamed to 'etupau1009d.exe' (same naming convention for updates received via your batch.exe) it does recognize update and starts installing update. Problem though is that after ETKA Update finishes installing this update ETKA Update starts up again and again, looping the same update installation indefinitely like this update was not installed (correctly)?! Do you or anybody knows why the same update installation is unsuccesfully looped over and over again and how to remedy this?

This way I'm stuck at au v1008 and will be revoked access anytime soon. Your opinion is very much appreciated. I won't tell you where to get ETKA 7 in this thread.

That's blatantly beyond forum rules. The purpose of this thread is to explain how to install and use ETKA 7 for those that have already obtained it. For those that don't know what ETKA is, it's VW's official parts catalog.

It's what the dealer uses when you ask them to look up a part. Having it is very useful, as it lets you get the part numbers without going to the dealership, so you can shop around for parts. Also, ETKA's diagrams are sometimes helpful when attempting to understand how a vehicle's systems work. INSTALLATION The version you obtained may be different.

However, as far as I can tell, this is the predominant version that's been spreading around the Internet. Note for those that have installed ETKA6 in the past: You do NOT need to run at 1280x1024 resolution. ETKA7 only requires 1024x768, and is much more flexible as to how it handles different resolutions.

Also, there is no distinction between European and US versions of ETKA any more - in fact, Argentina, Brazil, China, Mexico, and South Africa are in the same copy of ETKA, along with Europe and the US. Either mount the DVD image using a drive emulator, or burn the image to a DVD and put the disc in your computer.

If nothing happens, run SETUP.EXE. You will be presented with the following screen: Pick the drive you wish to install ETKA on. For most users, C: is the correct drive. Note that it will install into C: ETKA, so make sure that directory is clear.

Click Installieren to continue. ETKA setup will begin. At this point, it's pretty much just clicking next. Make sure you click US English when given the choice between US English and Deutsch. FIRST RUN To start ETKA, there will be an icon placed on your desktop, that looks like this: Double-click it, and ETKA will start. Unfortunately, ETKA starts in German language. What follows is how to change it to English.

You'll be presented with this screen when ETKA starts. Click on the button that's circled, ETKA STARTEN. (Once you have it changed to English, this button will say START EPC.) Once you do that, you'll get this screen. Click on the 'menu' button, then Sprachauswahl, then US Englisch. Once you do that, everything turns to English. NAVIGATION Now that we've started ETKA, and switched it to English mode, let's take a look at the interface.

The first part of the interface that we'll look at is the region switcher. This is a new feature in ETKA7.

In previous versions of ETKA, a different program had to be installed for each region. To say the least, especially as both programs couldn't be running at once. Now, ETKA7 includes all regions. You'll notice that the 'LOCAL MARKET' for this version of ETKA7 is Europe - however, thanks to ETKA7's inclusion of all regions, we can switch to the USA.

Simply click on the USA tab, and you're working with cars sold in the US. Now, here's something that might not make sense to those that haven't used ETKA before. (Note that model designations have not changed in ETKA7, though, from ETKA6.) In the US only, cars that were produced in different countries have different designations for each country of origin.

This mainly applies to those with Golfs and Jettas. D means German production, BR means Brazilian production, MEX means Mexican production, and USA means American production. To see which one your car is, look at the first digit of the VIN. 1 = USA, 3 = MEX, 9 = BR, and W = D (for Golfs and Jettas.) Once you pick a car (I'll use a Jetta built in Mexico as an example), you'll be asked to select the year, and restrictions. Restrictions will only be on cars where two body styles were sold in the same model year. The restriction where the numbers are before the '>>' signs is the newer model.

(In my example, the '>>9M-5-149 999' selection refers to an early 2005 (or 2005.0) Mk4 car, and the '1K-5-600 001 >>' selection refers to a late 2005 (or 2005.5) Mk5 car.) Double click on the restriction you would like to choose, or if there are no restrictions, the year, and you will enter the car's parts catalog. I have circled a button in red. In case you made a mistake and have picked the wrong model, clicking this button will return you to the model selection screen. However, you will have to reselect the USA tab. This button will return you directly to the model selection screen until you have entered a subgroup, at which point it will return you to the group selection screen.

Users of ETKA6 will notice a major difference in the interface at this point. Rather than a single dialog box with all of the main groups, that opens another for the subgroups (parts for individual subsystems of the car), it's all in one window. Click on a main group, then a subgroup. In this example, I am looking for an oil filter for an early 2005 Jetta TDI. After double-clicking on the subgroup you wish to view, you will see the following: The button that was highlighted above will send you to the group selection screen, not the model selection screen. Now, on this diagram, you can click on a number, or you can scroll through the parts list. Either way, you will get to the part you want.

Antivir Manual Update

In this case, I click on position 4, and it goes to the filter element with gasket. I would then write down the part number (ignore lowercase letters, and symbols in part numbers - only uppercase letters and numbers are valid), which is 074 115 562. This part number could be used to order the oil filter. (If you do wish to know what the lowercase letters and symbols in part numbers mean, right click on a part, go to V-Pages, then go to Symbols - it will explain what they mean.) If you need a closer view on a diagram (especially on smaller screens), right click on the diagram, and click Zoom Illustration.

You will then be able to scroll around a magnified version. Right clicking again and turning Zoom Illustration off will return to normal. You can also page through subgroups by using the circled buttons in the above screenshot. SEARCHING One very useful feature of ETKA is the ability to search for a part. ETKA7 has some critical changes in some of the search tools, so this section is going to be new to everyone. I will begin with ATP, which is a search tool that searches for a part number that has been provided by the user, and returns all of the cars and diagrams that it is included in.

First, make sure you are in the correct region and brand (if you're looking for Audi parts, switch the 'BRAND SELECTION' to Audi.) Then, click the binoculars button. This will open the search dialog. Highlighted in red is the ATP tab. We do not want to use the part number tab, as it isn't useful for our purposes - only those of the dealer.

Click on the ATP tab. If you are using ATP from within a car's pages (other search options that are available from a car's pages will be covered later), make sure that All Models is selected, unless you know that the part in question belongs to that car, in which case it will DIRECTLY go to where the part is when you search. Those who have experience with ETKA6 will notice that it is NOT possible to search across both Volkswagen Audi models in one search, unlike ETKA6. Also, it is not possible to search across regions. You must manually select the brand and region. In this case, I will use the oil filter that I used in the previous example, part number 074 115 562.

Enter the part number WITHOUT SPACES, DASHES, OR ANYTHING ELSE TO SEPARATE IT, and then click search. You will be presented with a list of models that use this oil filter. In this case, I will select a 1999-2001 Golf built in Germany by double-clicking. As you can see, a green arrow is pointing towards the part, in addition to it being highlighted - it goes directly to the part, where it's placed. This feature can come in very handy if you end up with a part, but don't know where it goes. Unfortunately, for those used to ETKA6, going back into ATP does not restore the search results.

However, if you use the menu button instead of the binoculars button, then go to Search and then ATP, it will be preloaded with the part number, and you can change the setting to All Models, and click Search. Also, a very useful new feature is that you can right-click on a part, and then click ATP. ATP will be preloaded with the part number.

Now that we're in a car's pages, we can search by part name. Let's search for a headlight. First, click on the binoculars button, then click on the Name tab (which is now available. Pinnacle Media Center Serial Number. ) I have searched for the headlight, and it came up with four subgroups. One notable difference between ETKA6 and ETKA7 is that ETKA6 showed the main and subgroup numbers in the search results. One experienced with ETKA6 could tell whether the item was in the right main group at a glance. Unfortunately, this feature doesn't exist any more. Double-click on the desired subgroup, in this case 'halogen twin headlamp with halogen fog lamp'.

The parts that ETKA feels are the best matches are highlighted. It may take multiple searches to find what you need - be creative with the wording. PRINTING Printing ETKA pages will allow you to use the pages for reference at a later time when you're away from your computer. Also, if you have a PDF printer driver such as, you can create PDFs of ETKA pages, which can then easily be sent to other people via e-mail. To print in ETKA, go to a page that you wish to print. We'll go back to our early 2005 Mexican-production Jetta's oil filter. Circled is the Print button.

Download etka 8.0

This dialog box will come up. The options mean: visible text page: This prints only the text (the part numbers and descriptions) that is visible on the screen. All text pages: This prints all of the text for that illustration. Illustration only: This prints only the illustration, not any of the text. Text and illustration: There are several options. In my experience, Portrait, all text pages is the most useful, based on how ETKA diagrams tend to be set up.

Click OK, and then you will be able to select a printer, and then print. An example of the output can be found. Hi nicklockard, can you imagine how frustrated i was for 2 days until i recovered the problem with this shit. I was about to go postal. People allover the world have the same problem after the deinstallation and i figured this out (so you all dont need to format your harddiscs;o))): 1. Go to search and type 'ETKA' erase all files with this name, all folders. Then go to C: windows preftech and look for ETSETU~1.EXE-23E0756F.pf and for Etsetup_ets_fat and erase this bitches.

You can also look for these files by search. Look for ETKINST or ETKINST.ini and erase them too. Now after all this -->this rule is to absolutely follow: - You should not have any Copy or Data of the Etka dvd on any of your harddrives! - You have to install etka off the dvd and not from somewhere else Now start the installation and it will work. The error with etmaster2000 and fatdevice will not show up any more. AND do not deinstall it anymore - this work suxxxx.

Would be happy if you could inform me for updates for et7 for giving you this solution. QUOTE (bhtooefr @ 2007-01-15 23:10:14) UPDATING Simply run the updates. Then it's a matter of clicking Next.

However, you will be asked for a password. The password is AKTEForum.TK (with that capitalization.) Whatever you do, do not stick the updates in C: ETKA DATA VW Updates and then expect it to work. What happens when you then run the update is it will begin to install, but be deleted half-way through, crash, and corrupt the entire ETKA database necessitating a reinstall.

Don't ask me how I know. OS Vista Ultimate on HP ZD7000 laptop. Fresh install from DVD (first time install on this computer) First run: change the language from German to US English and back to first screen and run Update. After some time update finished (didn't asked for a password). Next run of software on main screen popup with: Update no.: 598 (VW).

Select Yes (If I press NO and press start EPC everithing runs normaly) and error (new popup) contains c: ETKA Data VW update temp *.* and access denied (after the software is closed the folder temp situated in c: ETKA Data VW update temp is empty). Press OK in that window, software (main window) close and have a new Error window: Returcode1 with Error RR15! (press OK and that windows close) I have the updates files eupdvw598D to eupdvw603D situated in following locations: c: ETKA Data vw upload and c: ETKA Data vw update. Is there anything I can do to run successfully the updates?

For those continuing to have this installation problem, I got around it somehow. I followed the general logic in one of the posts above. Searching my entire C: and registry for the keyword 'ETK' and intelligently removing any that shouldn't be there.

(web favorites and search histories can be ignored). Don't accidentally delete your ISO. On my last attempt (which followed numerous unsuccessful attempts) I did the following differently.

I removed a ETK7.INI from C: Documents and Settings Local Settings Temp (look for other etka looking files in here, too, such as a cached version of the setup executable. In c: windows prefetch look for other extraneous etka related files w/ a recent timestamp. Or even setup.*. Whack anything suspicious.

I removed C: Documents and Settings All Users Start Menu Programs ETKA Obviously you need to purge c: etka I rebooted after cleaning the entire system. After the reboot, the first thing I opened was the setup.exe from the DVD.

It didn't pop up any error this time. Previous attempts would always give me some INI error (in german) initially, and then proceed to give me the language prompt and then die w/ the fatclient/ETMaster 2000 error. None of those showed up this time. Hope that helps someone. Hallo, I don't know if this thread is still open or if anyone if still following it but I have just downloaded ETKA7 and encountered the installation problems described by others after cancelling the first install because i thought it would take longer than the time I had available. Clearing the Prefetch folder and so on didn't work for me though until I found and deleted three ETKA files (can't remember exact file names) under C: Windows After that installation appears (still going) to be fine.

But I would still like to know if there is any way to modify setup before installation begins so only VW files are installed - I don't need the other makes. Setup appears to provide this possibilty but the check boxes for other makes could not be unchecked Okay so Setup has finished and I see Australia is not included as a possible MARKET.
